Visual artist, Thato Modise from Thaba Nchu, aims to be recognized among the best in the future. His love for visual art began at Tweespruit Primary School, and he has pursued it ever since.
Thato was motivated to create art to demonstrate to his family that he could earn a living from it. He specializes in paintings, drawings, wall murals, and portraits.
Thato expresses that being a visual artist grants him the freedom and independence to stand out and be unique.

“I love being a visual artist because I can use art to inspire and educate people about many issues we face in the world, like abuse and the social challenges our youth encounter,” he explained.
Thato charges between R1000 and R4500 for his work, primarily selling his artworks in Thaba Nchu and exhibiting at local art galleries.

The time it takes for Thato to complete an artwork varies, ranging from two weeks to a month, depending on the size and type of the piece requested.
As a self-taught artist, Thato developed his skills through online resources and reading books. He will soon host an exhibition called “Visions of the Ghetto” in Thaba Nchu, alongside fellow visual artists.
He can be contacted at 073 057 9698.
