In a poignant moment during yesterday’s GBVF Awareness Campaign and Candlelight Vigil, hosted by Buang Banna, a 78-year-old man’s cry for help became the event’s focal point. The elderly man, accompanied by two compassionate 8-year-old boys who offered to carry his bag, shared his struggle with those at the event’s entrance.
The boys explained that the man, who wished to reach Thaba Nchu, was facing abuse from his own children. Visibly weak and unwell, he had little strength left to carry on alone.
Organizers immediately contacted Social Development, and Mangaung District Director Mme Nonxuba arrived promptly with her team. The elderly man received compassionate care and support from a social worker specializing in elder care, a gesture that deeply moved attendees.
Archie Phinithi from Buang Banna shared his gratitude: “Seeing Social Development step in so swiftly, with such humility, was truly fulfilling. It shows the power of community support.”
This moment underscored the purpose of the GBVF campaign, as the community gathered to support one another and bring light to those facing hardship.
