In a heart-wrenching incident at Olympia Primary School, 5-year-old Acwengile Nomkhehlana, a Grade R learner, suffered an electric shock on Monday 11 March, sending shockwaves through the community.
Free State World had an exclusive interview with the distressed mother, who shared her harrowing experience and concerns about the lack of support from the school and authorities.
The incident, which occurred on a Monday, left the child’s mother deeply disturbed as she recounted the events leading up to and following the electric shock. According to her, the school failed to provide the support and care her child deserved, highlighting a significant gap in the school’s emergency response protocol.

Speaking to Free State World, the mother expressed her disappointment in the school’s handling of the situation. She stated that despite her pleas for answers and assistance, the school’s principal exhibited an unsupportive attitude and failed to call the parents or attend to the child at the hospital.
Adding to the distressing narrative, the mother revealed that this wasn’t an isolated incident, as teachers informed her that similar incidents had allegedly occurred twice the previous Friday before her child’s accident on Monday.
Shockingly, despite these alarming occurrences, the Heidedal police station reportedly declined to open a case, citing a lack of evidence.
The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, emphasized the urgent need for justice and accountability in ensuring the safety of children at Olympia Primary School. Her plea for support and action resonates with parents and community members who demand transparency and measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
