Lehlohonolo Mabaso is a well-respected poetry guru hailing from Qwaqwa in the Free State. He has mesmerized audiences with his talent for 17 years. Mabaso ventured into poetry in 2018 after starting his artistic journey as a rapper in 2005, writing lyrics and discovering that poetry offered a more profound channel of expression.
Mabaso is looking forward to the Second Annual Free State Veterans Poetry Night, where he plans to captivate the audience with his poetic prowess that continues to earn him respect and recognition. Being included in the festival is a significant honor for him, as recognition in his birth province holds great personal value.
“People can expect a great performance, with a mix of my old and new poems, taking the audience through my poetic journey. This has to be my best set yet,” he says with enthusiasm.

Excited to be regarded as one of the Veterans of Free State Poetry, Mabaso is diligently rehearsing every day from 4 am to 6 am, finding that the quiet mornings provide the perfect environment for connection with his upcoming performance.
“I’m looking forward to the expressions on the audience’s faces after every line, every metaphor and simile, but most of all, I’m looking forward to hearing people tell me how much they’ve healed after my performance,” reflected Mabaso, showcasing his passion for poetry and its impact on others.
Set to perform on September 23rd, Mabaso’s dedication to his craft promises an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
