JTMedia held a 1-day Tournament in Kgotsong, Bothaville in the Free State in commemoration of the Youth Day. The tournament’s aim was to promote sports amongst the youth as a way to deter them from being involved in criminal activities.

This idea came after organizers noted a rapid increase in young people smoking and loitering. The tournament was meant to keep young people entertained and sports used as a tool to keep young people active and to showcase their sporting skills.

The tournament became more than just about soccer but also a platform to give local hawkers a space to sell and keep spectators fed while they were supported in growing their businesses.

“Through the hosting of such tournaments, we have been able to engage with talent scouters to visit one of our tournaments, as we believe young boys in the community have the talent but lack the exposure to get their talent working for them,” said Jay Tyiliti, one of the organizers.
