2023 was definitely the year for Welkom duo 2 Point 1, their music video for Stimela hit 1 million views in 11 days of its release, they toured internationally and the cherry on top, they won the most sought-after South African Music Awards Record of the Year.
The duo made up of “Priga” Tankiso Prince Baloyi (Producer/Song Writer & DJ) and “Sheke” Moeketsi Victor Rathebe (Producer & DJ) hoisted the Free State Flag high on Saturday 18 November.
They won the SAMA for the Record of the Year and Music Video of the Year outclassing well-known musical heavyweights they were nominated alongside.
Stimela, which features Thaabe Letsie known as Ntate Stunna and Nthabi Sings, has been a hit since its release last year in the Free State but gained more national traction this year following the music video release 9 months ago.
The Stimela music video is currently on 29 million views on Penya Play’s YouTube page (Penya Play is Ntate Stunna’s label, he also shoots and edits music videos).
2 Point 1 is no stranger to releasing hits as they have numerous such as Lekolokoti, Batho Bana Ke Bana, Moleko, Docha, and Jwaleng Mo.
“Yena wa mamela, ke Modimo wa mehlolo, all our supporters, guys we made it.” Said the duo on their Facebook page.
“We thank everyone out there who voted for us and been very supportive. This is a big highlight, God is good” said Ntate Stunna on his Facebook page sharing a video of the award being announced.
Nthabi Sings also added “Yho ke Modimo wa mehlolo, thank you guys for your unwavering support. Big love for you, to my family, Ntate Stunna, 2point 1, I love you guys so much, and congratulations.”
