Former Lesedi FM presenter Nkunyana “Skuzabel” Nkunyana has finally revealed what transpired between him and his wife, which led to his dismissal from Lesedi FM following the infamous “di soufa” saga.

Speaking as a guest on Qwaqwa’s finest podcast, the Qwaqwa-raised Nkunyana stated that he did not lay a hand on his wife, yet he continues to face the stigma of being labeled a woman basher.

Skuzabel explained that like any couple, they experienced ups and downs, including quarrels. He mentioned that there were couches (di soufa) left outside that were damaged by rain, and he wanted to have them repaired. He had sent people to collect them, but when they returned, he no longer lived at the previous address. When his wife saw the couches, she allegedly wanted to take them.

According to Skuzabel, the person who was supposed to deliver the couches mistakenly dropped them off at his former residence instead of the new address where he now lived. When Skuzabel attempted to prevent his wife from taking the couches, she allegedly accused him of assault.

He claims that witnesses present at the scene can confirm that he did not physically harm his wife. Skuzabel stated that his wife was upset and went to the police to file a report against him. After hearing from his son that his wife was filing a case, Skuzabel went to the police station, where he found her lodging an abuse complaint against him. The police arrested him on the spot and told him to remove his belt.

He was released the following day, and the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence. However, this incident severely damaged Skuzabel’s reputation, resulting in lost business and financial opportunities, as many view him as an abuser.

The emotional former Lesedi FM presenter shared that the ordeal took a significant toll on his health and emotions, leading him to seek counseling. He faced bullying on social media and had to take a break to recover.

Skuzabel emphasized that the stigma of being seen as a woman basher still haunts him.

“I respect women. I want to tell Mzansi that I don’t beat women; that’s why the case was withdrawn—there was no evidence,” he said.

As a result of this incident, Skuzabel lost his Econet ambassadorship, and some of his former colleagues no longer speak to him; however, he holds no grudges against them.

Reflecting on his time at Lesedi FM, Skuzabel became emotional, as his journey there was abruptly cut short. He recalled a joke made while on air, during which a fellow presenter called him “SOFA.” This comment was used against him, and it was alleged that he did not show remorse, leading to his dismissal while the person who made the joke continues to work there.

Nevertheless, the owner of Beezy FM expressed that he harbors no ill feelings towards Lesedi FM and respects the brand that helped shape his career. He stated that if the opportunity to return to the station arises, he would gladly accept it.

He added that he has never spoken poorly about Lesedi FM or the SABC and will not do so, as the brand built his career. Skuzabel spent 13 years at Lesedi FM and is the founder of Beezy FM, Radio Bathong, and the Skuzabel Soccer Tournament. Despite the challenges he faced, he remains focused on the future.
